The non government organizations such as Relief India Trust play a significant
role in the welfare of our society in India. They work day and night looking
after the underprivileged, distressed, helpless and socially weak people. The
role of NGOs becomes even more relevant where the government’s social and
development programs are hard to reach to the common people in the tribal and
remote areas. The NGOs adhere to the code of conduct of the NGO’s regulatory
bodies and the policies of the government. Other than that, within the NGO set
up, they are free to operate however they want. The NGO’s management just
ensures that their vision and strategies are properly implemented, giving
satisfactory results for their efforts. The results obtained should necessarily
be well acclaimed by the government, regulatory bodies, donors and other
stakeholders of the NGO as well. That is also the philosophy of the Relief India Trust as well who
believe in complete freedom of their operational activities which produces
quality and satisfactory results.
Perception
of Government of NGOs:
A lot of government departments have varied
views about the role of NGOs in our society. Surprisingly, in developing
economies most of the views of political parties and other government officials
about NGOs is negative. They believe that the government should have trained
people who can give the right idea and approach or doing social and relief work
for the benefit of the society. They believe that the NGOs recruit all talented
people with lucrative salaries, which creates a void in the governmental
sector. Further, the NGOs take the entire credit for any welfare work which is
even done by the government. They believe that NGOs basically overshadow their
efforts and work done for the society. This is generally the perception of the
national government. On the other hand, the perception of NGOs by the local
government is very much positive. They know the importance of NGOs, especially
during crisis or disastrous situation. A lot of local governments can’t work
properly in emergency situations without the help of NGOs. The Relief India Trust
has done several
notable works in collaboration with the local government bodies.
Expectations
of Government from NGOs:
Sadly, the government of developing
countries met with different crisis and emergency situations every now and
then. The government bodies in emergency situations always look up to the NGOs
to play a significant role in disaster management and in the relief work or the
society. The government has got all
the resources and financial means to encounter any kind of emergency situation.
On the other hand, the NGOs have got the
brains and better ideas to cope with any such situation. The government
expectations are very high from the NGOs and want them to work in collaboration
in most of the situations faced by the country. The government and NGOs should
develop good relationships for the benefit of the country. Further, the NGOs
are also benefited several times by the government financially.
